and antheridium (right) of the aquatic fungus Saprolegnia.
The water molds (Oomycota) are my first love in microbiology.
My initial and ongoing research interests are with these fungi.

I was chairperson of the Mycological Society of America's Teaching Committee from 1991-1994. One of the major undertakings of the committee was to develop a manual of laboratory experiences which utilize fungi as experimental tools that anyone could use.
